What are reality checks?

Have you ever dreamt about flying, swimming through the ocean with dolphins, or having a conversation with your favorite celebrity? Lucid dreaming, the ability to be aware that you’re dreaming within the dream itself, allows you to experience these amazing possibilities and more!

But how do you know you’re actually dreaming? That’s where reality checks come in. Reality checks are simple actions you perform in both the waking world and your dreams to test if you’re awake or asleep. Here’s the idea: if the action produces unexpected results in your dream, it’s a clue that you’re lucid dreaming!

How to Use Reality Checks:

  1. Enable Reality Check Notifications in the Mindful Slumber App:
    1. Open the Mindful Slumber app on your device.
    2. Tap on the ‘Reality Checks’ section on the home tab.
    3. Adjust the begin and end times that you want reality checks to occur.
    4. Tap the ‘Enable’ button to enable notifications. You may be prompted to enable notifications on your device if you haven’t already granted this permission.

Remember:

  1. Reality checks take practice. Don’t get discouraged if they don’t work initially. Keep incorporating them into your waking life and dreams, and eventually, they’ll become second nature.
  2. There’s no one-size-fits-all reality check. Experiment and find what works best for you!
